Bob is almost 14. Noticeably slowing down. He needs a lower bench to get up on the bed. It's a while before he comes downstairs to greet me when I've been out for hours. And he's really insistent when it's time to go out (large bladder, so no "accidents", but still....)
And I gotta confess, it's starting to annoy me. I still have half an hour before the alarm! Or I'm in the middle of a podcast or a video! Or it's raining! And the Beagle bark is LOUD. And the whining part pierces my brain.
He senses my annoyance. And works on being a good boy. And when I recognize his effort, his tail-wagging joy is clear.
Face it, older mammals need more attention. Whether dogs or parents, they focused on your needs for years. And now you need to focus on theirs.
